17th Annual Rib BurnOff Features Chilly Willy Band

The Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head Island announced today that the 17th Annual Rib Burnoff and Barbecue Fest which will be held at The Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn, from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM, Saturday, May 18, 2013, rain or shine, will feature the local Chilly Willy Band, which played at the first Rib BurnOff.
The Club expects nearly 20 cooks to be competing and has commitments from professionals: One Hot Mama’s(as seen on the Food Channel), Smokehouse, Tavern 46(Montana’s), Bomboras Grille, Choo Choo BBQ Express, Coastal Carolina Catering.B-Town Pizza, and Sea Eagle Market. Amateurs include Hogs in Heat, Rib King, Motley Que, Elgie Stover Group, and Fire Iron MC Station. Cooks in both categories will be competing for a total of 20 awards. In this year’s blind judging certifiedSouth Carolina barbecue judges will direct the other judges on appropriate tasting methods as the pros and amateurs go head to head for the first time. As usual, ticket holders will vote for the popular vote winners.
Ticket prices for this year’s event will be the same as 2012, $12 in advance and $15 at the door, children under 12 are free. This year, each ticket will include 7 samples of either barbecue or ribs. Advance purchase of tickets can be made at Burke’s Pharmacy-Main Street, Coastal Discovery Museum, User Friendly-29-F Hunter Road, Bluffton Pharmacy-167-B Bluffton Road, Reilley’s Grill&Bar(South) and Honey Baked Ham Company(Kittie’s Crossing, Bluffton) or any Kiwanis member. Beer, wine, soda, hot dogs and ice cream will also be available for purchase. There will be a limited number of corporate sponsorships available which will include 20 tickets to the event. In addition, advance tickets will be sold at several local businesses at the reduced price.

Chili CookOff 2012
The Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head Island announced today that the 28th annual Chili CookOff will be held at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn from 12:00 noon until 4:00 pm, Saturday, October 13, 2012, rain or shine. This year’s event will focus on local chili cooks in the professional and amateur category with separate awards for each. In addition, the popular local band, The PortaJohns, will be providing entertainment and there will be an area with free children’s games and activities including a water slide so parents can fully enjoy the festivities.
In total, the Club expects 25-30 restaurants and amateurs alike including 2011 winners Smokehouse, One Hot Mama’s, Salty Dog, Redfish, Bombora’s, Wild Wing Cafe, and The Lodge in the professional category. Amateur winners included the Hilton Head Firefighters, Elks Lodge 2772, Central Church, Jim Schmidt, and the Van Landingham Rotary Club. The Kiwanis Club expects full participation in one of the most popular events in the Southeast as advertised in Southern Living magazine and HomeAway.com – Hilton Head Rentals.

RBO 2012 Announcement

The Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head Island announced today that the 16th Annual Rib Burnoff and Barbecue Fest will be held at The Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn, from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM, Saturday, May 19, 2012, rain or shine. In total, the Club expects full participation as usual from both restaurants and amateurs alike. The 2011 winners include: Smokehouse, One Hot Mama’s, Montana’s, Frankie Bones, Choo Choo BBQ Express, and Bombora’s Chill Grill in the professional category. Motley Que, Hog Heaven, Hilton Head Firefighters and the Southern Comfort Cooking Team were winners in the amateur category. In total, 21 cooks were entered in both categories. Professional certified judges will direct the blind judging to pick the Judge’s award winners and also ticket holders will vote for the popular vote winners.
Music will be provided by The Portajohns and a free children’s play area will also be available.

The event will focus on local chili cooks in professional and amateur categories with separate awards for each. In addition to the popular local Chilly Willy Band providing entertainment there will be a supervised children’s area with games and activities including a water slide so parents can fully enjoy the festivities.
