27th Annual Chili Cookoff Announced
The Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head Island announced today that the 27th Annual Chili Cookoff will be held at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn, from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM, Saturday, October 8, 2011, rain or shine. This year’s event will focus on local chili cooks in the professional and amateur category with separate awards for each. In addition to the popular local Chilly Willy Band providing entertainment there will be a supervised area with children’s games and activities including a water slide so parents can fully enjoy the festivities.
In total, the Club expects 25-30 restaurants and amateurs alike including 2010 winners Smokehouse, Wild Wing Café, Frankie Bones, One Hot Mamma’s and Roastfish and Corn Bread in the Professional category. Amateur winners included Hilton Head Firefighters, Elks Lodge 2772, Dougherty’s, John Safay, ABC Hearing and Burke’s Main Street Pharmacy. The Kiwanis Club expects full participation in one of the most popular events in the Southeast as advertised in Southern Living magazine.
Tickets will be available in advance for $10 at several Island locations including The Coastal Discovery Museum, Burke’s Pharmacy, Reilley’s Grill & Bar South and any Kiwanis member. Each ticket entitles the holder to as many samples of chili as they want. Tickets on the day of the event will be $12. Proceeds from the event benefit The Children’s Center, The Coastal Discovery Museum, Operation R&R, Marine Corps Scholarship Fund, and several other youth programs. Beer, wine, soda, hot dogs and ice cream will also be available for purchase.
In addition, there will be a limited number of corporate sponsorships available which will include 20 tickets to the event. Contact Colin Carrigan for more information at ColinCarrigan@UserFriendlyHHI.com.
