26th Annual Chili Cookoff Announced
The Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head Island announced today that the 26th Annual Chili Cookoff will be held at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn, from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM, Saturday, October 9, 2010, rain or shine. This year’s event will focus on local chili cooks in the professional and amateur category with separate awards for each. In addition a popular local band, The Portajohns, will return to the event to provide their unique and colorful style of entertainment. Also a supervised area with free children’s games and activities will provide parents with a nice diversion for their young ones.
In total, the Club expects full participation as usual from both restaurants and amateurs alike including 2009 winners Smokehouse, LWood’s, Gruby’s New York Deli, Frankie Bones, and One Hot Mamma’s in the Professional category. Amateur winners included Hilton Head Firefighters, Elks Club 2772, Dougherty’s, Moonshine Roofers, and Its All Delicious. The Kiwanis Club expects 25-30 participants in one of the most popular events in the Southeast.
Tickets will be available in advance for $10 at several Island locations including The Coastal Discovery Museum, Burke’s Pharmacy and any Kiwanis member, among others. Each ticket entitles the holder to as many samples of chili as they want. Tickets on the day of the event will be $12. Proceeds from the event benefit The Children’s Center, Strive to Excel, The Coastal Discovery Museum, Operation R&R, Marine Corps Scholarship Fund, and several other youth programs. Beer, wine, soda, hot dogs and ice cream will also be available for purchase.
In addition, there will be a limited number of corporate sponsorships available which will include 20 tickets to the event.
