Strong Participation for 2011 Chili CookOff

The Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head Island announced today it has received a record number of commitments from local chili cooks for the 27th Annual Chili Cookoff  being held at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn from Noon to 4:00 PM, Saturday, October 8, 2011.  The event will focus on local chili cooks in professional and amateur categories with separate awards for each.  In addition to the popular local Chilly Willy Band providing entertainment there will be a supervised children’s area with games and activities including a water slide so parents can fully enjoy the festivities. Bring bathing suits for the kids!

The Club has over 25 restaurants and amateurs alike including Smokehouse, Wild Wing Café, Frankie Bones, One Hot Mamma’s, Roastfish,  Reilley’s South, LWoods, Bombora’s, Longhorn Steakhouse, Montana’s, Murphy’s Pub, Kenny B’s, San Miguel’s, The Lodge, Redfish, Wreck of the Salty Dog, Hilton Head Diner and Patti’s Pig N Pit in the Professional category. Amateur commitments include Hilton Head Firefighters, Elks Lodge 2772, Dom Buglione, Burke’s Main Street Pharmacy, Central Church, Memory Matters, Chili Jerks, and 3 Babes and a Chili Bowl. The Kiwanis Club expects more participation in one of the most popular events in the Southeast as advertised in Southern Living magazine.

Tickets will be available in advance for $10 at several Island locations including The Coastal Discovery Museum, Burke’s Main Street Pharmacy, Reilley’s South, User Friendly and any Kiwanis member. Each ticket entitles the holder to as many samples of chili as they want.  Tickets on the day of the event will be $12.  Proceeds from the event benefit The Children’s Center, The Coastal Discovery Museum, Operation R&R, Marine Corps Scholarship Fund, and several other youth programs.  Beer, wine, soda, hot dogs and ice cream will also be available for purchase.

In addition, there will be a limited number of corporate sponsorships available which will include 20 tickets to the event.

27th Annual Chili Cookoff Announced

 

The Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head Island announced today that the 27th Annual Chili Cookoff will be held at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn, from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM, Saturday, October 8, 2011, rain or shine.  This year’s event will focus on local chili cooks in the professional and amateur category with separate awards for each.  In addition to the popular local Chilly Willy Band providing entertainment there will be a supervised area with  children’s games and activities including a water slide so parents can fully enjoy the festivities.

26th Annual Chili Cookoff Participants

The Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head Island announced today that 24 participants thus far have entered the 26th Annual Chili Cookoff.  This year’s event is being held at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn, from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM, Saturday, October 9, 2010, rain or shine.  This year’s event will focus on local chili cooks in the professional and amateur category with separate awards for each.  In addition a popular local band, The Portajohns, will return to the event to provide their unique and colorful style of entertainment. Also a supervised area with children’s games and activities including a water-slide will be available at a nominal cost and will provide parents with a nice diversion for their young ones.

In total, the Club expects participation from nearly 30 entries from both restaurants and amateurs alike including 2009 winners. The Kiwanis Club Chili Cookoff, one of the most popular events of its kind in the Southeast, has commitments thus far from:

May 15th Rib Burnoff Celebrates Armed Services Day

The Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head Island announced today that the 14th Annual Rib Burnoff and Barbecue Fest which will be held at Honey Horn, from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM, Saturday, May 15, 2010, rain or shine will feature a special Armed Services Day theme with music and drills and offer discounted tickets for active military members and their families. The Portajohns, formerly known as Southwind, who have been a mainstay of this event for 5 years, will play their usual country and bluegrass music. The 2010 participant commitments include: Smokehouse, One Hot Mamma’s, Montana’s, LWoods, Smokey Bonez, Applebee’s, HH Diner, Longhorn Steakhouse, and Disney Resort in the professional category. Iron Pig, Motley Que, Hog Heaven, Elgie Stover, Shawnuff BBQ, and Hogs In Heat (formerly bbq.com) have committed in the amateur category. More are expected as the event is covered in the May issue of Southern Living Magazine and has attracted regional attention. A supervised complimentary childrens’ play area will be available with games and slides.

Once again judges will be selected from community and business leaders to pick the Judge’s award winners. Ticket holders will vote for the popular vote winners. Proceeds from this event have benefited local children’s charities throughout the year. For a complete list see our website at: www.hiltonheadkiwanis.com.

Beer, wine, soda, hot dogs and ice cream will also be available for purchase. Advance purchase tickets are $12 and available at Burke’s Main Street Pharmacy, User Friendly-29F Hunter Road, Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn, and Reilley’s Grill and Bar(south end). Tickets at the gate will be $15 and children under 12 are admitted free. A special price of $5 will be available to active military members and their immediate families.
