2010 Rib Burnoff Coming Soon!

The Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head Island announced today that the 14th Annual Rib Burnoff and Barbecue Fest will be held at Honey Horn, from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM, Saturday, May 15, 2010, rain or shine. In total, the Club expects full participation as usual from both restaurants and amateurs alike. The 2009 winners included: Smokehouse, One Hot Mamma’s and Montana’s in the professional category and Iron Pig, Motley Que, and Hog Heaven in the amateur category. In total, 19 cooks were entered in both categories but more are expected as the event will be covered in the May issue of Southern living Magazine.
Once again judges will be selected from community leaders to pick the Judge’s award winners and also ticket holders will vote for the popular vote winners.
In 2009, proceeds from this event benefited local charities throughout the year including:
The Children’s Center Boys and Girls Club Coastal Discovery Museum Young Life
Strive to Excel Kids Triathlon HH Swim Team Boy Scouts
JROTC of HH/Bluffton Sandbox PEP CAPA
Deep Well People to People Operation R&R VIM
Room at the Inn Marine Corps Scholarship Fund of Hilton Head
Beer, wine, soda, hot dogs and ice cream will also be available for purchase. There will be a limited number of corporate sponsorships available which will include 20 tickets to the event. In addition, advance tickets will be sold at several local businesses at a reduced price.

25th Anniversary Chili Cookoff Features Chilly Willy Band

The Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head Island 25th Anniversary Chili Cookoff will be held at the Honey Horn Pavilion, from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM, Saturday, October 10, 2009, rain or shine. The popular Chilly Willy Band, whose style fits the Cookoff perfectly, will perform their unique Bluegrass and country music. Thus far 24 cooks have committed to the popular event where awards will be given for chili and showmanship.
Thus far the following cooks have entered this very popular event, (A) denotes amateur:

Tickets will be available in advance at several Island locations including The Coastal Discovery Museum, Internet Café (Coligny), Burke’s Pharmacy and any Kiwanis member. Tickets will be $10. Each ticket entitles the holder to as many samples of chili as they want. Proceeds from the event benefit The Children’s Center, Strive to Excel, The Coastal Discovery Museum, Operation R&R, Marine Corps Scholarship Fund, and several other youth programs. Beer, wine, soda, hot dogs and ice cream will also be available for purchase.
In addition, there are a limited number of corporate sponsorships available at $200, which includes 20 tickets to the event.

Friday, August 28th, 200925th Anniversary Chili Cookoff Announced
The Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head Island announced today that the 25th Anniversary Chili Cookoff will be held at The Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn, from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM, Saturday, October 10, 2009, rain or shine. This year’s event will focus on local chili cooks in the professional and amateur category with separate awards for each. In addition there will be supervised children’s games and activities and entertainment by a popular local band.
In total, the Club expects full participation as usual from both restaurants and amateurs alike including 2008 winners Westin Hotel, Sea Grass Grill, Upper Crust, Wreck of the Salty Dog, Smokehouse, LWood’s, San Miguel’s, HH Firefighters, Dougherty’s, ABC Hearing, Barbara Weaver, and Jeffrey Stephens, along with Reilley’s, One Hot Mamma’s, Disney, Frankie Bones, Southern Coney and Breakfast, ResortQuest and several amateurs.
