Chili Cookoff October 9, 2010

The Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head Island announced today that 24 participants thus far have entered the 26th Annual Chili Cookoff. This year’s event is being held at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn, from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM, Saturday, October 9, 2010, rain or shine.  This year’s event will focus on local chili cooks in the professional and amateur category with separate awards for each.  In addition a popular local band, The Portajohns, will return to the event to provide their unique and colorful style of entertainment. Also a supervised area with  children’s games and activities including a waterslide will provide parents with a nice diversion for their young ones at a nominal charge.

26th Annual Chili Cookoff Participants

The Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head Island announced today that 24 participants thus far have entered the 26th Annual Chili Cookoff.  This year’s event is being held at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn, from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM, Saturday, October 9, 2010, rain or shine.  This year’s event will focus on local chili cooks in the professional and amateur category with separate awards for each.  In addition a popular local band, The Portajohns, will return to the event to provide their unique and colorful style of entertainment. Also a supervised area with children’s games and activities including a water-slide will be available at a nominal cost and will provide parents with a nice diversion for their young ones.

In total, the Club expects participation from nearly 30 entries from both restaurants and amateurs alike including 2009 winners. The Kiwanis Club Chili Cookoff, one of the most popular events of its kind in the Southeast, has commitments thus far from:

26th Annual Chili Cookoff Announced

The Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head Island announced today that the 26th Annual Chili Cookoff will be held at the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn, from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM, Saturday, October 9, 2010, rain or shine. This year’s event will focus on local chili cooks in the professional and amateur category with separate awards for each. In addition a popular local band, The Portajohns, will return to the event to provide their unique and colorful style of entertainment. Also a supervised area with free children’s games and activities will provide parents with a nice diversion for their young ones.

In total, the Club expects full participation as usual from both restaurants and amateurs alike including 2009 winners Smokehouse, LWood’s, Gruby’s New York Deli, Frankie Bones, and One Hot Mamma’s in the Professional category. Amateur winners included Hilton Head Firefighters, Elks Club 2772, Dougherty’s, Moonshine Roofers, and Its All Delicious. The Kiwanis Club expects 25-30 participants in one of the most popular events in the Southeast.

Tickets will be available in advance for $10 at several Island locations including The Coastal Discovery Museum, Burke’s Pharmacy and any Kiwanis member, among others. Each ticket entitles the holder to as many samples of chili as they want. Tickets on the day of the event will be $12. Proceeds from the event benefit The Children’s Center, Strive to Excel, The Coastal Discovery Museum, Operation R&R, Marine Corps Scholarship Fund, and several other youth programs.  Beer, wine, soda, hot dogs and ice cream will also be available for purchase.

In addition, there will be a limited number of corporate sponsorships available which will include 20 tickets to the event.

25th Anniversary Chili Cookoff Features Chilly Willy Band

chili_logoThe Kiwanis Club of Hilton Head Island 25th Anniversary Chili Cookoff will be held at the Honey Horn Pavilion, from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM, Saturday, October 10, 2009, rain or shine.  The popular Chilly Willy Band, whose style fits the Cookoff perfectly, will perform their unique Bluegrass and country music. Thus far 24 cooks have committed to the popular event where awards will be given for chili and showmanship.
